Portrait Painting From Life, 31st May (10am - 3:30pm)
Portrait Painting From Life, 31st May (10am - 3:30pm)
Painting a portrait directly from a sitter is a unique and exciting experience. Painting from life is at the core of Richard’s practice and this workshop is an opportunity to engage in his approach and methodology in Richard’s own studio.
During the workshop you will learn the principles of observing and responding to the sitter, building the facial structure and developing the likeness. There will be a focus on mark making, skin tones and facial proportions.
The day will start with a fast painting activity where you will observe the sitter from different angles. Richard will demonstrate his method of quickly mapping in the head using light and shadow to establish a basic likeness. Richard will provide all materials for this exercise so that the colour pallets are consistent for every participant.
The day will continue with an extended painting session where you will have time to put into practice and build upon the techniques from the first activity. Richard will develop his own portrait from the first activity, showing you how to add more detail to create a convincing portrait.
Previous experience of portrait painting is advised and the workshop is a natural extension of Richards getting started with portrait painting workshop.
Unlike Richard’s other workshops which run until 4:00pm, this workshop will finish at 3:30pm for the benefit of the sitter.
An opportunity not to be missed!
